Some quotes & reviews for "Island Life" (released 18 May 09):

'Perhaps foreshadowing a wave of 90s electronica and ambient resurrection, The Ox has produced a record that is drenched in clubland chart nostalgia and sun-tanned memories; perfectly timed for the coming months. It manages to both feel like a love letter to musical times gone by and a well crafted record fit for drifting out of speakers complimented by the sounds of the ocean.' (4 out of 5 stars) - Owain, God is in the TV (June 19, 2009)

'Very brilliantly crafted atmospheric Balearic album. Has an oldschool vibe reminiscent of Chicane, BT, Leftfield, Craig Armstrong, etc. The Title track is OH so beautiful, but my fave has to be the very sunny trac Let Me Be, will be featured in my Beach Party sessions this season. BIO

“Island Life” is the fantastic new album from The Ox (released 18 May 2009).

This is the second offering from the UK based songwriter and producer whose first album ‘Distant Shores’ was met with great reception on both sides of the Atlantic ocean.

“Island Life” follows on from The Ox’s first album offering a beautiful mix of chill out and dance orientated tracks combined with the real instrumentation performances that have set him apart from the other artists of the same genre.

As can probably be guessed from its title, the inspiration for the album has come from his travels and experienced in his native UK. There is a nice mix of different aesthetics to each of the 11 tracks that cart you off into the various soundscapes that The Ox weaves out for his listeners.

A relative newcomer to the down−tempo scene, The Ox seems to be going from strength to strength. After having tracks included on a few compilations, he then had success with downloads in Japan via Toryumon. He has also managed to maintain his place in the top ten "UK down−tempo charts" on MySpace for over a year now...and counting!

The man behind it all is Paul Hogg, a musician with many talents. He was given the nickname Ox at college because of his large frame and stature and it has stuck ever since.

His versatility as a musician is clearly demonstrated in his work as he plays all instruments himself, as well as executing the recording, production and mastering. Heavily influenced by the likes of Moby, Craig Armstrong, Groove Armada and Chic, he always aims to evoke passion and emotion in the listener.

As a producer, remixer and musician, Paul is also working on several other projects as well as The Ox crossing over several different music genres. He is more than happy to do remixes and work with solo singer/songwriters.

Some quotes & reviews for "Distant Shores" (released 28 Oct 08):

“Imagine yourself on a tropical shore, relaxing as you wiggle your toes in the sand, listening to the gentle rhythm of the ocean and tranquil music from The Ox’s Distant Shores. Bliss...” The Ox's fantastic debut album, Distant Shores, is the perfect way to start 2009. " - Maggie Woods, MotorBar (Jan 10, 2009)

"Distant Shores isn't typical. It's at moments jarring, beautiful, soaring and unique. The Ox's moods and modes change here often enough that you almost forget your place and time for a few moments. A distinct pleasure." - Wildy, Wildy's World Review (Dec 01, 2008)

"This entire album has that special something not often found on electronic music albums. The Ox manages to change things up a bit with a collection of tunes ranging from live acoustic compositions to medium tech house tracks. I know what I'm playing on my next beach side road trip... This is a very nice collection of moods and tones."
Demarkus Lewis − Grin Music

"What I heard is pretty good especially The Ox...good groove."
Jugoslav Starovlah (aka DJ Goju) − Migrations Radio Show

"His album is not really my thing but it sounds good."
Nick Holder − DNH Records

"Smooth and relaxing... ideal background music. I must admit the right vocals could do the trick to take it to the next level though."
Tunji Adebowale (Media and Publicity Director, Starpoint Radio)
